Kevin Ward’s Great Aunt was a famous opera singer. His Mother played the clarinet and father went through his youth learning piano and tap dance, though he hated every second of it.
Kevin’s first professional gig came at the age of 22 in Orono, Maine, performing at the annual Bumstock Festival with his college band Amazing Deep Thoughts. That band was short lived as everyone went their separate ways after graduation.
After a few years, Kevin found himself in Tacoma Park, Maryland hobbling together his next project, The Psychedelic Brass Nut Septet, though the band had anywhere between 3 and 9 members on any given night and no brass. This made for some confusion and banter about what a Septet actually was.
Tired of city living, Kevin and his soon to be wife, Heather, moved back to Southern Maine and connected with a bunch of Portland musicians forming a reggae band. For 7 years, Kevin played rhythm guitar for Mystic Vibes, opening for some of the legendary reggae bands of the 60’s and 70’s.
Kid’s came along and Kevin took a break from music for several years and raise his two boys with Heather, run a small music venue and engage with the local community. Music began to trickle back in with a variety of projects.
Kevin Ward now performs solo and duo acoustic gigs playing a wide variety of americana, cowboy tunes and classic rock. He also plays bass with Kennebunk based Dock Squares and subs in with several local bands.
